In mentioning the name of Pusa Sub-District Office, for sure one would wonder how the district got its name. According to the tales of the the local elders, at one there was a small farm occupied by a group of farmers known as Putat's farm. Unfortunately, this area was constantly struck by waves which led them to open up a new area for settlement. One morning, while working together clearing the new area, they stumble upon a black cat. Finally a proposal crop up to name the new settlement as Pusa Village (cat's village). Pusa Sub-District is a small district within the Betong Division and is famous for its "terubok" fish, especially in Beladin and Pusa villages to the outside community. This district covers an area 362.47 sq. km. It is situated at a distance of 90 km from Betong town. To reach here it takes more than an hour by land from Betong town. Meanwhile from Sri Aman town it takes a duration of two hours. This distance include the passage that have to be passed through from the junction with the main road (Pan Borneo Highway), that is about 19 km to reach Pusa town. For the local people, land transport is still the main choice. Even then, the importance of water transport cannot be ignored, like the express boats, speedboats and motor launches which are used by the people from the interior. |
